How does Assam police recruit and select the candidates for its Department?

Assam Police is a huge organization with the strength of approximately 65000. The Director General of Police and Inspector General of Police is leading the entire department. Its headquarters is located at Ulubari, Guwahati.

Several organizations such as Assam Police Radio Organisation (APRO), Bureau of Investigation (Economic Offences) (BIEO), Vigilance and Anti Corruption (V&AC), Assam Police Battalions (APBn), Armed Police Training Centre (APTC), APRO Training School, District Training Centres for CD&HG, Fire & Emergency Services (FES), Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Training & Armed Police (T&AP), Bodoland Territorial Autonomous District (BTAD) Range, Battalion Training Centre (BTC), Regional Training Centre for FES are assisting the Director General of Police.

The district police stations are at Chirang, Hamren, Majuli, Hojai, Dibrugarh, Lakhimpur, Cachar, Dhubri, Sivasagar, Biswanath, South salmara and other places.

Assam police recruitment is done on the basis of the vacancies. Whenever there is a need for recruitment the Assam police announce the same.

Assam Police Recruitment Board conducts recruitment for the selection of “Jail Warder” against the vacancies 135.

Jail Warder Selection procedure:

Candidates with correct applications shall undergo Physical Efficiency and Physical standard tests. If any candidate is found to have a physical deformity, then the person will be debarred from other tests.

Physical standard Test (PST): The candidates are measured with height, weight and chest. If a candidate fails to meet the requirement, then the person will be rejected and Assam Police Recruitment section will issue a Rejection slip.

Physical Efficiency Test (PET): Candidates who clear PST have to undergo PET.

Race: The PST cleared candidates shall participate in 1600 meters (Male) and 1200 meters (Female) running race that is to be completed within 6 minutes and 30 seconds. Candidates who successfully complete the race will be awarded marks based on the time taken to complete the race.

The candidates who fail to complete the race within the allotted time will be eliminated from the Assam Police Recruitment process.

Written Test for Jail warder

Written test: It will contain 75 multiple choice questions that have to be answered in OMR answer sheet. For every correct answer one mark will be awarded. There is no NEGATIVE mark for wrong answers. A Written test is conducted totally for 75 Marks. The question paper will be in both Assamese and English.

General English 10 Marks
General Science 10 Marks
Elementary Arithmetic 10 Marks
Indian History, Culture, Indian National Movement 10 Marks
Assam’s History, Geography, Polity, Economy 10 Marks
Logical reasoning/Mental Ability 10 Marks
General Awareness/General Knowledge & Current Affairs 10 Marks

Final results will be based on the marks obtained as follows:

Physical Efficiency Test (PET ) 15 Marks
Multiple choice objective type Written Test 75 Marks
Extra-curricular activities and special skills & Academic excellence 15 Marks

Selected candidates shall undergo basic training conducted by the Assam Police Recruitment division. A probation period of 2 years shall be completed by them. Any candidate who is unable to complete the training for any reason during the probation period, then he/she will be discharged from the service.
